Volkswagen ID.4 battery wiring flaw may cause stall

NHTSA campaign 22V162000 · Reported 2022-03-16 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

A stall in traffic can lead to a crash, so this is serious; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but get the free repair as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

Inside the big high-voltage battery that powers these vehicles, there is a thin flexible circuit that carries connections between the battery cells. On some vehicles that circuit was soldered incorrectly, so the connection may not be dependable. An unreliable connection can interrupt power from the battery, and the vehicle may stall, meaning it suddenly stops driving. That can happen without much warning, including in traffic.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your ID.4 is covered. 2. Contact a Volkswagen dealer to schedule service, or call VW customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 9302). 3. The dealer replaces the affected battery cell modules free of charge.
