This is serious because power can be lost while you are driving and that raises the chance of a crash; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but you should get it fixed as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

These hybrid vehicles use a large high-voltage battery to help drive the wheels. Inside that battery, some of the welds that join parts together were not made well enough and can break. If a weld fails, the vehicle can suddenly lose the power that moves it, which could leave you coasting in traffic with no ability to speed up or pull away. Dealers replace the entire high-voltage battery at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is covered. 2. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule the free battery replacement, or call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 22S33). 3. Until it is repaired, be cautious in situations where a sudden loss of power would be dangerous, such as merging onto a highway.

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY
Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Escape and 2021 Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L hybrid powertrains. Insufficient welds inside the high voltage battery may fail, resulting in a loss of drive power.
Safety risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the high voltage battery, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on July 12, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed August 8, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S33.
