Ford Escape liftgate hinge covers can fall off

NHTSA campaign 25V829000 · Reported 2025-12-01 · Ford Motor Company

low How serious is it? About this label

A detached liftgate hinge cover can create a distraction or a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The liftgate is the rear hatch you lift to load the back of the vehicle, and small covers sit over its hinges. On these Escapes those covers may not be fastened properly. A cover can work loose and come off the vehicle. If it comes off while you are driving, it can distract you or land in the road, where another driver could hit it. The dealer inspects the covers and reattaches or replaces any that are loose or missing.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — covered VINs have been searchable since December 3, 2025.
2. Call your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 25SD6), to set up an inspection.
3. Have the hinge covers reinstalled or replaced — the work is free.
