What's wrong, in plain English

Front seat belts have a device that yanks the belt tight in a crash. On certain Hyundai Venue vehicles, that device can explode when it goes off, throwing metal pieces inside the car that can hit and injure the people in it. A dealer will fit a cap over the driver and passenger belt parts for free. If your Venue was already fixed under the earlier recall 21V-796, you still need this new repair done.

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Venue is included in recall 22V458000 (Hyundai number 231).
2. Book the free repair with your Hyundai dealer — do this even if the earlier recall 21V-796 work was already performed.
3. Call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 if you need help; owner letters were mailed October 25, 2022.

Summary
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Venue vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
Safety risk
An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury.
Remedy
Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioners with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 231. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall number 21V-796 for Venue vehicles. Venue vehicles previously repaired under 21V-796 will need to have the new remedy completed.
