Silverado and Sierra sport bar blocks brake light

NHTSA campaign 22V463000 · Reported 2022-06-30 · General Motors, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

An inoperative high-mounted brake light can reduce visibility to other drivers and increase the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some of these trucks were fitted with an accessory sport bar. The brake light mounted on that bar may not work, and the bar can also block the truck's own high center brake light. Either way, drivers behind you may not get a clear signal when you brake, so the truck does not meet the federal lighting standard. A dealer will check how the bar was installed and correct the wiring if needed.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected.
2. Contact a Chevrolet dealer (1-800-222-1020) or GMC dealer (1-888-988-7267) and mention recall N222368110.
3. Have the dealer inspect the sport bar and supply the correct wiring — free of charge.
