Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra roof airbag recall expanded

NHTSA campaign 26V325000 · Reported 2026-05-21 · General Motors, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because pieces can be thrown into the cabin, but the notice puts no restriction on driving, so you can keep using the truck while you schedule the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

This covers more trucks with the same roof airbag problem as an earlier recall. The airbags mounted in the roof rails above the side windows have a gas canister whose end cap can detach, or whose sidewall can split open. If that happens, the compressed gas escapes and can launch the cap or metal fragments into the cab, where they can injure the people inside. Dealers will replace both roof rail airbag modules at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — VINs became searchable May 21, 2026 — even if an earlier recall did not cover your truck.
2. Contact your dealer or Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 / GMC at 1-888-988-7267 and reference GM recall N262557310.
3. Get both roof rail airbag modules replaced free; owner letters were mailed June 24, 2026.
