Volkswagen ID.4 passenger airbag may be folded incorrectly

NHTSA campaign 22V858000 · Reported 2022-11-02 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

The car drives normally and nothing will warn you, but a front passenger may not be fully protected in a crash, so get the airbag replaced promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The airbag in front of the front passenger seat may have been folded the wrong way when it was built. An airbag has to unfold in a very specific way to cushion the person sitting there. If it was packed incorrectly, it may not open or spread out as it should during a crash, so a passenger could be hurt worse than they would be with a properly working airbag. The vehicle does not meet the federal crash protection rule.
