Serious, because power can cut out with no warning while you are driving; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but have the update done as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software problem can cause the control unit that manages the big high-voltage battery to restart, or cause the part that sends power to the motor to switch off. Either one can leave the car without drive power — you press the pedal and the car does not go. Losing power in traffic or on the highway is dangerous. A dealer will update the software in both control units free of charge. Only 2021 ID.4s are affected.

3. Book the free software update for the battery management and pulse inverter control units.

Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 ID.4 vehicles. Software programing may cause the high voltage (HV) battery management control module to restart or the pulse inverter to deactivate.
Safety risk: A reset or deactivation may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the HV battery management control unit and the pulse inverter control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 31, 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97ZZ.
