Ford Bronco steering can lock up completely while driving

NHTSA campaign 23V155000 · Reported 2023-03-08 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is extremely dangerous — Ford tells owners not to drive these vehicles at all until the steering gear has been replaced.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2023 Ford Bronco Wildtrak and 2022 Bronco Raptor vehicles have damage inside the steering gear, the part that turns your steering wheel motion into turning wheels. That damage can make the wheel much harder to turn, or cause it to lock up entirely so it will not move at all. If that happens while you are driving, you cannot steer the vehicle. Dealers will replace the whole steering gear at no cost.

What you should do

1. Stop driving the vehicle now and check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm it is affected. 2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, reference recall 23S09, and ask about towing to the dealer. 3. Have the steering gear replaced — the repair is free.
