Ford Bronco engine wiring can short and cause fire

NHTSA campaign 26V468000 · Reported 2026-07-20 · Ford Motor Company · critical severity what's this?

Affected vehicles

What's wrong, in plain English

The bundle of electrical wiring in your Bronco's engine compartment can get damaged. Damaged wiring can short out, and a short circuit creates heat or sparks under the hood, which can start a fire. Ford dealers will wrap protective sheathing around the wiring so it cannot rub through, at no cost to you. Ford is handling this in three groups by model, so your letter may come later than another Bronco owner's letter.

How serious is it?

This one is serious because a fire can start in the engine compartment; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but get the free repair done as soon as your dealer can schedule it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — affected VINs became searchable on July 23, 2026.
2. Contact your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and reference recall 26S55.
3. Have the protective sheathing installed over the wiring — parts and labor are free.
