Kia SUVs and cars: dashboard display can go blank

NHTSA campaign 23V298000 · Reported 2023-04-26 · Kia America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderately serious — with a blank display you lose the warnings the car uses to alert you to problems, which raises the crash risk, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

These Kias have a digital dashboard with a 4.2-inch screen in place of traditional gauges. When you start the car, that screen may come up completely blank. If it does, you cannot see warning lights, low tire pressure alerts, or other messages the car uses to tell you something is wrong. Kia fixes this with a software update to the instrument cluster at no charge. Owner letters went out May 26, 2023.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Kia is included.
2. Call your Kia dealer or Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 (recall SC270) and ask for the instrument cluster software update.
3. Get the update done — it is free.
