Ford Bronco and Ranger have wrong load capacity label

NHTSA campaign 23V379000 · Reported 2023-05-26 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

Nothing on the vehicle is broken and the notice does not restrict driving, but until the label is corrected, do not load the vehicle up to the number currently printed on it.

What's wrong, in plain English

The Tire and Loading Information label on these vehicles shows the wrong load carrying capacity — the maximum weight of people and cargo the vehicle is built to handle. If you load up to the number printed on that label, you could end up carrying more weight than the vehicle should. An overloaded vehicle is harder to handle and more likely to be in a crash. These vehicles fail a federal tire and rim rule because of the bad label.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered.
2. Watch for the corrected label Ford is mailing and stick it over the old one, or call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 23C18).
3. Or have a Ford or Lincoln dealer install the new label — either way it is free.
