Toyota Corolla Cross passenger airbag may not open properly
high How serious is it? About this label
Serious, because the front passenger may not be properly protected in a crash; Toyota does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep driving while you arrange the free inspection.
What's wrong, in plain English
The dashboard panel in front of the passenger seat may have been built without a required weakened seam. That seam is what lets the passenger airbag break through the panel and open correctly in a crash. Without it, the airbag may not inflate the way it should, so a passenger could be hurt more badly in a collision. The vehicle does not meet the federal crash protection standard. Dealers will inspect the panel and replace it if needed.
