Volvo VNL and VHD trucks have non-working side airbag

NHTSA campaign 23V403000 · Reported 2023-06-04 · Volvo Trucks North America

high How serious is it? About this label

The truck drives normally, but the driver's side airbag will not deploy in a crash, which raises the chance of injury, so get it connected as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2022-2024 Volvo VNL and VHD trucks built with RollTek driver seats are missing an electrical connection. Because that circuit is missing, the side airbag in the driver seat will not go off in a crash. The airbag is simply not connected, so the protection you expect in a side impact is not there. A dealer adds a jumper harness between the seat and the truck's main wiring to complete the circuit.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is covered.
2. Contact a Volvo Trucks dealer, or Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586, and reference recall RVXX2305.
3. Have the jumper harness installed — there is no charge.
