Volkswagen Golf R and GTI loose front suspension mounts

NHTSA campaign 23V437000 · Reported 2023-06-21 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious — loose suspension parts can make the car unstable to steer and raise the risk of a crash, so get it inspected promptly, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some Volkswagen Golf R and Golf GTI cars, a part at the top of the front suspension called the strut mount may be bent out of shape. When that part is deformed, the bolts holding the suspension together can work loose. The suspension is what connects your wheels to the car and keeps your steering predictable. If those connections loosen, the car can feel unstable and harder to control. Dealers will check both the right and left strut mountings and replace whichever ones need it.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your car is included. 2. Contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall number 40T3) or your dealer to schedule the inspection. 3. Have the dealer replace the strut mountings as needed — there is no charge.
