Tesla Pedestrian Warning Sound Silenced After Factory Reset

NHTSA campaign 24V153000 · Reported 2024-02-27 · Tesla, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

Pedestrians may be unaware of an approaching vehicle if the PWS sounds are muted, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Electric cars are quiet, so they are required to make a sound at low speeds to warn people walking nearby. On these Teslas, doing a factory reset turned that warning sound off. With no sound, someone crossing the street or walking through a parking lot may not hear your car coming. Tesla fixed this with a free over-the-air software update, version 2023.44.30.14, that your car downloads and installs on its own.
