Ford Maverick, Escape and Lincoln Corsair may lose power

NHTSA campaign 24V330000 · Reported 2024-05-10 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

Losing drive power in moving traffic raises the risk of a crash, so while the notice does not tell you to stop driving, book the update right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

The software in the hybrid system on these vehicles can slip the transmission into neutral on its own. When that happens the engine keeps running but no power reaches the wheels, so the vehicle coasts and slows down even though you are pressing the gas. That can leave you stranded in traffic with little warning. The fix is a software update that a dealer loads onto the vehicle at no charge; it does not require new parts.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered by campaign 24V330000.
2. Call your Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule the software update, or reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 24S33).
3. Get the update installed — it is free and usually a same-day visit.
