Volkswagen ID.4 passenger airbag inflator may be loose

NHTSA campaign 24V643000 · Reported 2024-08-28 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious but not an emergency: the vehicle drives normally and there is no park-it warning, but a front-seat passenger could be hurt in a crash if the airbag does not work as designed, so get it inspected promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The screws that hold the passenger-side front airbag inflator in place may be loose. The inflator is the part that fills the airbag with gas so it puffs up in a crash. If it is not held down properly, the passenger airbag may not open the way it should, or may not protect the person sitting there. Volkswagen is replacing the airbag if an inspection shows a problem.
