Ford Super Duty backup camera can fail from water

NHTSA campaign 24V806000 · Reported 2024-10-25 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

The notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but a blank backup camera makes it much easier to hit something or someone behind you, so back up slowly and check over your shoulder until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

Water can leak into a small electronic box in the tailgate that handles the backup camera on these Ford Super Duty trucks. When it gets wet, the picture on your dashboard screen may flicker in and out, or turn solid blue or black, when you shift into reverse. Without that picture you can't see what is directly behind the truck. The dealer replaces the camera, the wiring, the module, and updates the software.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is covered.
2. Call your Ford dealer and ask for recall 24S66, or contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
3. Have the dealer do the camera, harness, module, and software work — it is free.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2024 F-250, F-350, and F-450 vehicles. Water may enter the Tailgate Park Assist Sensor Interface Module (TPASIM) and cause the rearview camera image to display intermittently or appear blue or black.
Safety risk
