Mazda says a unit that does not work properly raises the risk of a crash; the vehicle is drivable, but do not drive with a fogged or iced windshield you cannot clear.

What's wrong, in plain English

An electrical control unit behind the dashboard may not start up properly when you turn the vehicle on. When that happens, several things can quit at once: the windshield defroster, the seat belt warning, the 360-degree camera view, and, on plug-in hybrid models, the cooling system for the high-voltage battery. Losing the defroster in bad weather is the most likely everyday problem. A dealer will load improved software into that unit free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered.
2. Call your Mazda dealer, or Mazda at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6, about recall 7124J.
3. Have the free software update done — it is a reprogramming job, not a parts replacement.

Summary
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 vehicles equipped with a Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU). During vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360° view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly.
Safety risk
An ESU that does not function properly, increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the Dash ESU with improved software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2024. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7124J.
