Ford Escape passenger airbag cover may break into fragments

NHTSA campaign 24V850000 · Reported 2024-11-08 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

The airbag that is supposed to protect your front passenger may injure them instead; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but this one is worth scheduling quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The plastic cover on the dashboard in front of the passenger seat may have been made wrong. That cover sits over the passenger airbag and is supposed to split open cleanly so the bag can inflate. Because it was built incorrectly, the cover can break apart and throw pieces into the cabin, or the airbag may not open the way it should. Either way, a passenger could be hurt in a crash.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Escape is included. 2. Contact your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 24C38). 3. The dealer replaces the passenger side instrument panel cover free of charge.
