Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair hybrid battery short circuit

NHTSA campaign 24V954000 · Reported 2024-12-20 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

Serious — loss of power while driving and a fire risk; Ford says not to charge the battery until the repair is finished.

What's wrong, in plain English

A defect in the high-voltage battery cells can cause a short circuit inside the pack. The battery can fail while you drive, so the car may suddenly lose power, and the failure can also start a fire. Ford tells owners not to charge the battery until the repair is done. The dealer will update the battery control computer and replace the battery pack if needed, free. Ford has since issued a newer recall with an updated fix for these same vehicles.

What you should do

1. Confirm your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. 2. Stop charging the high-voltage battery until the repair is complete. 3. Contact your Ford or Lincoln dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 24S79), for the free repair — and ask about the newer recall 25V789000, which requires an additional fix.
