What's wrong, in plain English

The big battery in your electric EQB can break down internally, and that can lead to a fire while the car is parked or being driven. As a temporary precaution, Mercedes tells owners to charge only up to 80 percent of a full battery. The actual repair is a free software update for the system that manages the battery, done at the dealer. Letters went out in three batches between May and December 2025.

What you should do

1. Limit charging to 80 percent until the update is done.
2. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see which recalls are still open on your car.
3. Contact your Mercedes dealer or MBUSA at 1-800-367-6372 (recall 2025040005) for the free update — and ask about newer recall 26V073, which replaces this one and may require further work even if this repair was already done.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022-2025 EQB 250, EQB 300 4MATIC, and EQB 350 4MATIC electric vehicles. The high voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.
Safety risk
A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised to only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% battery capacity until the repair has been completed. Dealers will update the battery management system software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 22, 2025. This is a phased recall. Phase 1 owner letters were mailed on May 22, 2025. Phase 2 owner letters were mailed on October 31, 2025 and Phase 3 owner letters were mailed on December 12, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2025040005.
