Losing power suddenly in traffic can cause a crash, so contact your dealer right away and stop driving the vehicle if it hesitates or loses power.

What's wrong, in plain English

The transmission is the part that sends engine power to the wheels. On some 2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles it was not built correctly, and it can suddenly stop delivering power. If that happens while you are driving, the vehicle can lose speed with no warning, which is dangerous in traffic or on a highway. This is not something a simple adjustment fixes, so dealers will install a whole new transmission at no charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is on the list.
2. Call Volkswagen at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 38CX) or your dealer and ask for the soonest appointment.
3. Have the transmission replaced; the repair is free.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The transmission may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in a loss of drive power.
Safety risk
A sudden loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the transmission, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 12, 2025. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 38CX.
