Volkswagen Atlas rearview camera image may not appear

NHTSA campaign 26V473000 · Reported 2026-07-22 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. · medium severity what's this?

Affected vehicles

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2024-2026 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles can have a brief drop in electrical power that upsets the dashboard display screens. When that happens, the backup camera picture may not come up when you shift into reverse. Without that picture you cannot see a small child, a pet, or an object sitting right behind the vehicle. A dealer will update the rearview camera software at no cost to the owner.

How serious is it?

The main danger is backing over something or someone you cannot see, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving — keep using the vehicle but look over your shoulder and check your mirrors every time you back up until it is fixed.
