Serious: the notice does not tell you to stop driving, but a seat belt that will not work properly may fail to protect you in a crash, so if a front belt will not extend or retract, avoid using that seat until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

The seat belt for the driver's seat, the front passenger seat, or both can lock up on its own. When that happens, the belt will not pull out and will not pull back in, so it cannot be worn properly across the person in the seat. A belt stuck like that may not hold someone in place in a crash. Dealers will inspect the belt retractors and replace any bad ones, free of charge.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered by recall 26S34.
2. Watch for the follow-up letter — interim letters went out June 8, 2026, and letters announcing the actual repair were anticipated in August 2026; you can also call Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
3. Book the free inspection and replacement, and note that vehicles already handled under the older recalls 24V099 or 25V197 still need this new repair.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend.
Safety risk
Seat belts that do not retract or extend can fail to restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed June 8, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in August 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S34. This recall replaces and expands previous NHTSA recalls 24V099 and 25V197. Vehicles previously inspected or repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.
