Cadillac Escalade IQ and GMC Hummer EV battery fire risk

NHTSA campaign 26V494000 · Reported 2026-07-30 · General Motors, LLC · critical severity what's this?

Affected vehicles

What's wrong, in plain English

A part inside the big battery pack that powers these electric vehicles may not have been fastened down properly. If it comes loose, it can shift around and damage the battery, and a damaged battery can catch fire. You cannot see or hear this problem from the driver's seat, so there is no warning sign to watch for. Your dealer will replace the entire high-voltage battery pack at no cost to you.

How serious is it?

This is serious because a damaged battery can catch fire; GM has not told owners to stop driving or to park outside, but you should get the battery replaced as soon as a dealer can take the vehicle.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included (VINs became searchable July 30, 2026).
2. Call your dealer to book the repair, or contact Cadillac at 1-800-333-4223, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and mention GM recall N262562600.
3. Have the high-voltage battery replaced — the parts and labor are free.
