Ram 1500 spare tire and tire pressure warning recalls

3 NHTSA recalls · RAM · Tires · model years 2019–2021 (we track 2018 and newer) · newest 2021-09-09

This group is small, narrow, and entirely Ram 1500 — no heavy-duty trucks or vans appear. All three are Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard compliance issues about labeling and monitoring rather than parts that break. Twice, in 2019 and again in 2021, trucks left the factory with a spare tire whose size and required inflation pressure differ from the information on the tire placard, so an owner inflating by the sticker would be running that spare wrong. The third, also on 2019 Ram 1500 trucks, is an incorrect TPMS sensor installed during production, which leaves the low tire pressure warning indicator unable to display. Model year 2019 carries two of the three.

Warning signs to watch for

Is it safe to keep driving?

None of these three tells owners to stop driving or park outside, and all are rated medium or low severity. The two spare tire recalls only matter if you actually mount the spare, so the risk arrives with a flat rather than before it — get the spare swapped before you ever need it. The TPMS recall is different in one respect: until the sensor is replaced you may get no low pressure warning at all, so check all four tires with a gauge regularly and do not rely on the dash light.

What the free repair involves

Dealers replace the incorrect-size spare tire with the correct size spare tire assembly, or replace the incorrect TPMS sensor, free of charge. All three are straightforward parts swaps done at the dealership — there is no software update and nothing is delivered over the air. Owner notification letters were mailed for each recall, and the work costs you nothing.

Common questions

Can I still use the spare tire in an emergency?

The notices say the spare provided differs in size and required inflation pressure from the tire placard, so do not set it by the door sticker. The safest course is to have the dealer install the correct spare before you need it.

How do I know whether my truck got the wrong TPMS sensor?

The recall covers certain 2019 Ram 1500 trucks where an incorrect sensor was installed during production, so the low tire pressure warning never displays. Check with a dealer or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 using your VIN.

Do these tire recalls affect Ram 2500, 3500 or ProMaster?

No. All three cover the Ram 1500 only, in the 2019 and 2021 model years. Other Ram lines have recalls in different component areas, such as brakes and steering, but none of them appear in this tire group.

A recall applies only to specific vehicles. Check your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
