Ram tailgate, bed step and ProMaster door beam recalls explained
Nothing in this group fails while you are driving — every one is about crash protection or cargo. Two involve accessories: a Mopar Rear Step Kit, part number 82215289AB, for the 2019 Ram 1500 that can let the rear control arms contact the fuel tank in a rear impact, and an accessory bed step on 2019-2020 Ram 2500 and 3500 that can break under side loading while someone is standing on it. The widest one is misaligned tailgate strikers on 2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups, which can let the tailgate open while driving. The last is the 2021-2024 Ram ProMaster, built missing a side door beam and carrying incorrect seating capacity on the tire placard.
Warning signs to watch for
- A tailgate that does not latch squarely, or opens on its own while driving
- A bed step that flexes or gives way when stepped on from the side
- Seating capacity printed on the ProMaster tire placard that does not match the van
- Nothing noticeable for the rear step kit or the missing door beam — both only matter in a crash
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these four tells owners to stop driving or park outside, and none can fail while you are underway. The tailgate recall carries the one day-to-day caution: the tailgate can open on the road, so avoid hauling unsecured items in the bed until the strikers are checked. Avoid stepping on the accessory bed step from the side, since that is exactly the condition in which it breaks. The ProMaster drives normally but has less side-impact protection than it should until the beam is installed.
What the free repair involves
Four parts fixes, all free of charge: dealers replace the Mopar rear step kit on the 2019 Ram 1500, replace the bed step support brace on 2500 and 3500 pickups, inspect the tailgate striker alignment to the box latch and adjust it if necessary, and install the missing side door beam plus an overlay label on ProMaster vans. No software or over-the-air work.

Common questions
Can I keep using the bed while the tailgate recall is open?
The truck is safe to drive, but misaligned strikers can let the tailgate open while driving and spill cargo onto the road. Avoid carrying unsecured items in the bed until a dealer inspects the striker alignment and adjusts it.
Do I have to remove the Mopar rear step kit myself?
No. Dealers replace the bed step free of charge on 2019 Ram 1500s fitted with kit 82215289AB. The hazard only appears in a rear-end crash, where the step kit may cause the rear control arms to contact the fuel tank.
How can I tell if my ProMaster is missing the door beam?
