Audi A5 Coupe side curtain airbags may misfire

NHTSA campaign 17V822000 · Reported 2017-12-20 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious for crash protection, though it does not affect how the car drives, so you can keep driving while you arrange the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

These cars have head curtain airbags, the ones that drop down along the side windows to protect your head and help keep you inside the car in a side crash or rollover. On the affected cars, the curtain may not unfold the way it is supposed to. You would not notice anything during normal driving, because the problem only shows up in a crash. Audi dealers will modify the curtain airbags so they open correctly, free.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your A5 Coupe is covered.
2. Contact an Audi dealer or Audi customer service and reference recall 69T7.
3. Have the head curtain airbags modified at no cost to you.
