Volkswagen Atlas and Tiguan passenger airbag may tear

NHTSA campaign 18V375000 · Reported 2018-06-06 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

If the air bag were to tear or unfold incorrectly during deployment, it can increase the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

In a crash, the front passenger airbag in these vehicles may tear or fail to open the way it should. An airbag that rips or unfolds incorrectly does not cushion the passenger properly, so someone sitting in the front passenger seat could be hurt more badly in a collision than they otherwise would be. Dealers will replace the front passenger airbag at no charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is affected. 2. Contact your Volkswagen dealer or Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall 69W8 or 69W9. 3. Have the passenger frontal airbag replaced, free of charge.
