Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX doors may open in crash

NHTSA campaign 18V612000 · Reported 2018-09-11 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

Serious but only in a crash, so the vehicle is safe for normal driving while you wait for the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

The doors on these 2018 vehicles latch onto small metal bolts in the door frame. On some of them, those bolts are shorter than they should be, so the doors are not held as firmly as required by federal safety rules. In a crash, a door could pop open instead of staying shut. An open door means people inside are far less protected and could be thrown out. Dealers replace the bolts with the correct ones.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is affected.
2. Call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 18C06) or your Ford or Lincoln dealer to book an appointment.
3. Have the door bolts replaced; the work costs you nothing.
