Serious — a detached rear wheel or damaged rear brakes can cause a crash, and while Toyota does not tell owners to stop driving, you should get the inspection done as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

Toyota says the bolts that hold the rear wheel hub bearings in place may not have been tightened enough at the factory. Over time those bolts can work loose. If that happens, they can damage parts of the rear brakes, and in the worst case a rear wheel can come off the car while you are driving. A dealer will inspect the bolts and replace the hub bearing and axle carrier parts if any bolt is loose or missing.

2. Call your Toyota dealer, or Toyota at 1-888-270-9371 (recall J0Y), and book the inspection.
3. Have the inspection and any needed parts replaced — the repair is free.

Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2019 Toyota C-HR vehicles. The rear axle hub bearing bolts may have been insufficiently tightened, causing the bolts to loosen and damage the rear brake components or cause a rear wheel to detach.
Safety risk
If the bolts loosen and damage the rear brake components, or cause a rear wheel to detach, it would increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear axle hub bearing bolts. If a bolt is found to be loose or detached, the dealer will replace the rear axle hub bearing assembly and rear axle carrier sub-assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is J0Y.
