If the power sliding doors fails to latch, the doors may open while moving, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The power sliding side doors on certain 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey minivans have rear latches that can stick instead of catching properly on the door frame. A door that has not fully latched can come open while the van is moving. That could injure someone inside the van or someone standing nearby. Honda dealers will replace the rear latch assemblies on both the left and right sliding doors at no charge to you.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your minivan is affected. 2. Call your Honda dealer or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (recall Z33 or O36) for an appointment. 3. Have both rear sliding door latch assemblies replaced — the parts and labor are free.

Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The latch assemblies for the power sliding doors may stick and not properly latch to the door strikers.
Safety risk: If the power sliding doors fails to latch, the doors may open while moving, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right power sliding door rear latch assemblies, free of charge. The recall began January 3, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are Z33 and O36.
