Honda Odyssey backup camera can fail from water

NHTSA campaign 26V423000 · Reported 2026-07-01 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Water can get inside the backup camera on these minivans. When that happens, the picture may not come up on the dashboard screen after you shift into reverse. You lose the view directly behind the van, so it is easier to back into something, or someone, that the mirrors do not show. Federal rules require that picture to appear, which is why this is a recall. The dealer replaces the camera at no charge to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (VINs are searchable starting July 9, 2026).
2. Call your Honda dealer, or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (recall HOX), for an appointment.
3. Have the rearview camera replaced — it is free, even if you paid for a repair before.
