Wheelchair van restraints may not lock in Odyssey, Pacifica, Sienna

NHTSA campaign 25V877000 · Reported 2025-12-17 · Vantage Mobility

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious: an unsecured wheelchair can move during the ride and injure the passenger, so have the restraints checked before carrying someone in a wheelchair.

What's wrong, in plain English

These minivans were converted by Vantage Mobility so a wheelchair can ride inside. The wheelchair is held down by belt-style restraints with retractors that are supposed to lock, much like a seat belt locks. On these vans, the retractors may fail to lock, so the wheelchair is not really tied down. If it is not secured, the chair and the person in it can roll or tip while the van is moving, braking, or turning.

What you should do
