Serious — a tire can let go with no warning, so have the tires inspected as soon as possible even though the notice does not order the truck parked.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some of these trucks left the factory with Bridgestone tires from certain production weeks whose sidewalls may have steel cords showing through. A tire built this way can suddenly lose all its air while you are driving instead of going down slowly. A blowout on a loaded truck is very hard to control and can cause a serious crash. Bridgestone tire shops and Volvo truck service centers will inspect the tires and replace any bad ones at no cost.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included.
2. Take the truck to a Bridgestone Tire or Volvo Truck service center for inspection, or call Volvo at 1-800-528-6586 (recall RVXX1803).
3. Inspection and any tire replacement are free of charge.

Summary: Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2019 Volvo VNL and VHD trucks, equipped with Bridgestone M854 tires with date codes 2418-2518, Bridgestone M860A tires with date code 2518, and Bridgestone M864 tires with date codes 2318-2418, all of size 425/65R22.5. The sidewall steel body cords may be exposed, possibly causing unexpected, rapid air loss during use. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires - Other than Passenger Cars."
Safety risk: Rapid tire air loss can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, instructing them to take their vehicles to Bridgestone Tire or Volvo Truck service centers for inspection and replacement, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1803.
