RAM 1500 seat sensor may misjudge airbag deployment

NHTSA campaign 18V822000 · Reported 2018-11-20 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

The truck drives normally and there is no order to stop using it, but in a crash the front passenger airbag may not inflate the right way, so get the seat sensor checked.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2019 RAM 1500 trucks with a manually adjusted front passenger seat have a sensor that tracks how far forward the seat is. That sensor can work loose and slip out of position, so it can no longer tell when the seat is all the way forward. The truck uses that information to decide how the front airbag should inflate in a crash, so a passenger could be hurt worse. Dealers will inspect the sensor bracket and replace it if needed, free.
