Ram trucks: side curtain airbag inflators may rupture
high How serious is it? About this label
Serious: if an inflator bursts, metal fragments can injure you or your passengers, and although the notice does not tell you to park the truck, you should schedule the free repair promptly.
What's wrong, in plain English
The side curtain airbags run along the roof above the side windows and drop down in a crash. On these trucks, a manufacturing problem means the part that inflates the airbag — on the right side, the left side, or both — can burst instead of filling the bag. If that happens, sharp pieces of metal can fly into the cab and hit the people inside. A dealer will replace one or both side curtain airbags at no cost.
What you should do
2. Contact a Ram dealer and ask for recall 05C, 09C, or 10C (NHTSA 25V010000), or call FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
3. Have the dealer replace the affected side curtain airbags — parts and labor are free.
