Ram 2500 and 3500 Steering Link Can Come Apart

Losing steering control can cause a crash with little or no warning, and although the notice does not tell owners to park the truck, this repair should not wait.

What's wrong, in plain English

A large nut on the steering linkage under the front of these trucks can work itself loose. If it does, one end of the drag link, the bar that carries your steering input to the front wheels, can come apart. If that happens, you lose the ability to steer. The dealer will check how tight the nut is and either replace the drag link or weld the nut in place so it cannot loosen.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is covered by recall 19V021000.
2. Call your Ram dealer or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number V06) and get the earliest appointment you can.
3. Have the dealer check the jam nut and replace the drag link or weld the nut, free of charge.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Ram 3500 and 2014-2018 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab and Ram 2500 vehicles. The outboard steering linkage jam nut may loosen, allowing one end of the drag link to separate.
Safety risk
A drag link separation can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will check the steering linkage jam nut tightness, replacing the drag link assembly or welding the nut to the adjuster sleeve, free of charge. The recall began March 22, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V06.
