Serious, because a driveshaft can come apart with little or no warning while you are driving; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but you should get it to a dealer promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The bolts that hold the middle support for the driveshaft, the spinning shaft that sends power from the engine back to the wheels, can work loose on some Ascents. If they loosen enough, the front part of that shaft can come apart while you are driving. Losing the driveshaft can leave you without power to the wheels and makes a crash more likely. Subaru dealers will replace the driveshaft assembly, including the center support brace, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Ascent is included. 2. Contact your Subaru dealer or Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 (recall WUI-94) to book the free driveshaft replacement. 3. If you hear new clunking, rattling, or vibration from under the car, stop driving it and have it towed in.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2019 Ascent vehicles. The center support bolts for the driveshaft may loosen, possibly resulting in the front portion of the driveshaft disconnecting.
Safety risk
If the front end of the driveshaft separates, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshaft assembly, including the center support brace, free of charge. The recall began July 26, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUI-94.
