Ford Ranger heater blower motor can short, causing fire

NHTSA campaign 19V726000 · Reported 2019-10-10 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

A fire risk is very serious; the notice does not order owners to stop driving or park outside, but get this inspected right away and take any burning smell or smoke from the vents as a reason to stop and call for help.

What's wrong, in plain English

The fan motor that pushes air through the heater, air conditioner and defroster can short out electrically. An electrical short like that can start a fire. Dealers will check the date the fan motor was built and install a new one if it is one of the suspect parts, at no cost to you. Ford started this recall in December 2019, so any Ranger that has not been repaired yet still needs the inspection done.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Ranger is included. 2. Contact your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 19S34. 3. Have the blower motor inspected and replaced if needed; it is free.
