What's wrong, in plain English

The seat belt for the right-hand seat in the second row may have been put together incorrectly at the factory. A belt that is assembled wrong may not hold the person in that seat the way it should if there is a crash. The belt may look normal and buckle normally, so there is no easy way to tell from the outside whether yours is affected. Dealers will inspect that one belt and replace it if it was built wrong.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or call Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820 and reference recall SR-20-002.
2. Schedule a free inspection at a Mitsubishi dealer, which will replace the right-side second-row seat belt if necessary.
3. Until the inspection, consider seating passengers in another seating position in the vehicle.

Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Outlander and 2019 Outlander PHEV vehicles. The seat belt for the right side second-row seat may have been assembled incorrectly.
Safety risk: An incorrectly assembled seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the right side second-row seat belt and replace it as necessary, free of charge. This recall began June 17, 2020. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-20-002.
