Mitsubishi Outlander backup camera image fails to appear
medium How serious is it? About this label
An inoperable rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
Some 2022 Mitsubishi Outlanders have a software error that can stop the backup camera picture from showing on the dashboard screen when you shift into reverse. With no picture, you cannot see children, pets, or objects directly behind the vehicle. Federal rules require a working rear view, so these vehicles do not meet the standard. A dealer will reload the camera software free of charge. Mitsubishi has since replaced this recall with a newer one.
What you should do
2. Contact your Mitsubishi dealer, or Mitsubishi customer service, and mention recall SR-22-003 to schedule the camera software update.
3. Have the software updated — the repair is free.
