Serious: an engine that stalls while you are driving raises the risk of a crash, and although the notice does not tell you to park the vehicle, this fix has been available for years, so get it scheduled right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

The low-pressure fuel pump sits inside the gas tank and pushes fuel toward the engine. On these Honda and Acura vehicles, that pump can quit working. If it does, the engine can stall — shut off — while you are driving, which can leave you stopped in traffic or unable to keep up with the cars around you. Dealers replace the entire fuel pump assembly at no charge, and this repair has been available since July 2020.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Call your Honda or Acura dealer, or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, to set up the fuel pump replacement.
3. Have the pump replaced — it is free, and the repair has already begun.

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Acura NSX, 2019 Acura RDX, RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Accord, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R and HR-V, 2019-2020 Insight and 2019 Fit vehicles. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Safety risk: If the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly, free of charge. The recall began July 22, 2020. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
