Honda Fit and HR-V backup camera image may fail

NHTSA campaign 24V384000 · Reported 2024-05-31 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

medium How serious is it? About this label

An inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Because of a design problem in the audio display's power circuit, the backup camera image may not come up at all when you start the car with a key. With no picture on the screen, it is easier to miss a person, pet, or object behind you while reversing. A dealer will reprogram the display audio unit for free. Important: if your vehicle was already repaired under the earlier recall 23V-046, it still needs this new repair.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — do this even if you had the earlier 23V-046 repair, because that fix is not enough.
2. Call your Honda dealer and ask for recall TIQ or DIR, or reach Honda service at 1-888-234-2138.
3. Have the display audio unit software updated at no cost.
