This is serious because longer stopping distances increase the risk of a crash, though Ford has not told owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
The rubber hoses that carry brake fluid to the front brakes can split open sooner than they should. If a hose bursts, brake fluid leaks out and your vehicle will take a longer distance to come to a stop. Dealers will replace the front brake hoses with new ones made with a different braid material, at no cost to you.
What you should do
1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included. 2. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule the repair, or call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 20S42. 3. Have both front brake hoses replaced free of charge.

- Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.
- Safety risk
- A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.
