Audi Q3 driver's seat frame bolted incorrectly to rail

NHTSA campaign 20V644000 · Reported 2020-10-19 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

This only matters in a crash, where a failed seat connection could cause serious injury; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but the inspection should be done right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

Audi found that on one 2020 Q3, the frame of the driver's seat may have been attached to the seat rail with the bolts put in the wrong way at the factory. A connection like that can come apart. If it let go during a crash, the seat might not hold the driver in place, so injuries could be worse. A dealer will look at the bolted joint and, if it is not right, put in a new seat structure at no cost.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — only a single 2020 Q3 is covered by recall 20V644000.
2. If your VIN matches, book an appointment with an Audi dealer and mention recall 72L4, or call Audi at 1-800-253-2834.
3. Let the dealer inspect the bolts and replace the seat structure if needed — free of charge.
