When you start these vehicles, the computer that runs the backup camera can glitch and the camera picture may not appear on the screen. Without that picture you cannot see what is directly behind you when you back up, which is how federal rules say the camera has to work. A dealer will reload the camera computer's software for free. Volkswagen owners were told parts may not be ready yet and will get a second letter when the fix is available.

An electrical connection inside the front passenger seat can work loose. That connection belongs to the system that senses whether someone is sitting in the seat, and if it comes loose the front passenger airbag is switched off. In a crash, that airbag would not inflate to protect the person riding up front, so injuries could be worse. The dealer will replace the seat's occupant detection control unit free of charge.

The tire pressure warning system may be slow to catch a problem in one situation: when all four tires are losing air at the same time. The system compares the tires to each other, so if they all go down together it may not warn you quickly enough. Driving on badly underinflated tires raises the chance of a crash. A small vent pipe inside the fuel tank may have been damaged while the tank was being put together at the factory. The vent pipe lets air move in and out as the tank fills. If it is damaged, fuel can push back up and spill out of the filler neck when you open the gas cap. Spilled gasoline can splash on you or on the ground, which can cause injury.

In these Audi and Volkswagen models, the rear seat belts have a locking feature you use to hold a child safety seat tightly in place. On these vehicles that lock can switch off too early, so the belt no longer keeps the child seat secure. A child seat that can shift or move means a child is less protected in a crash. Federal occupant protection rules are not met. Dealers will inspect the middle rear seat belts and replace them free if needed.

Volkswagen found that one 2019 Audi Q3 left the factory with a faulty pulley part, which kept a small retaining clip from locking properly into the steering rack. If that clip came loose, it could catch on nearby parts and lock up the steering, leaving the driver unable to turn the wheel. Audi replaced the entire steering rack on that single vehicle at no cost, and this recall was finished in February 2021.

On certain 2020 Audi Q3 vehicles, the flat plate on the face of the brake pedal — the part your foot actually presses — can bend or come off when you push hard on the brakes during a sudden stop. If that happens, there is less surface for your foot to press against, which can make it harder to brake the way you expect. Audi dealers will check the weld holding the plate to the pedal and replace the whole brake pedal if needed.

Audi found that on one 2020 Q3, the frame of the driver's seat may have been attached to the seat rail with the bolts put in the wrong way at the factory. A connection like that can come apart. If it let go during a crash, the seat might not hold the driver in place, so injuries could be worse. A dealer will look at the bolted joint and, if it is not right, put in a new seat structure at no cost.

The passenger airbag sits inside the dashboard and is supposed to burst out through a hidden seam when it inflates. On these Q3s, it may not push through that seam the way it should. In a crash, the airbag may not open and fill properly, and small pieces of plastic from the dashboard could be thrown into the passenger area. Audi dealers will inspect the dashboard and replace it if needed.

Certain 2016-2018 Audi Q3s with LED headlights have a fault in how the car checks its own lights. If a front turn signal stops working, the car may not show you any warning about it, which federal safety rules require. Without that alert you could turn or change lanes believing your signal is flashing when it is actually dark, leaving other drivers with no idea what you plan to do. Dealers update a control module free of charge.
