RAM 4500 and 5500 rear brake hose can wear through

NHTSA campaign 21V008000 · Reported 2021-01-13 · Braun Northwest

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious: losing the rear brakes raises your chance of a crash, so have it fixed as soon as you can, although the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2019-2020 RAM 4500 and 5500 trucks built by Braun Northwest with Liquid Spring rear suspension have a flexible rear brake hose routed where it rubs against a suspension part. Over time the rubbing wears the hose through, and brake fluid can leak out. If that happens, the rear brakes may work poorly or stop working at all, leaving you with much less stopping power than you expect.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is covered.
2. Contact Braun Northwest at 1-360-748-0195 or your dealer to book the repair.
3. The dealer installs a repair kit, re-routes the hose, and replaces any worn brake lines free of charge.

Remedy
Braun Northwest will notify owners, and dealers will install a repair kit to each rear caliper and modify the rear brake caliper flexible line mounting. Any worn rear brake caliper flexible lines will be replaced as needed, free of charge. The recall began June 8, 2020. Owners may contact Braun Northwest customer service at 1-360-748-0195.
